Privacy Policy

This page is an English translation of our Turkish-language Privacy Notice ("KVKK Aydınlatma Metni ve Gizlilik Politikası"), provided for accessibility. The original Turkish version is the legally binding text; in case of any discrepancy between the two, the Turkish version prevails.

1. Data Controller

This application ("Matiko") and the Maarif Matematik website are operated by Maarif Matematik. Your personal data is processed as described below, with Maarif Matematik acting as the data controller, in accordance with Turkey's Law on the Protection of Personal Data No. 6698 ("KVKK").

2. Categories of Personal Data Processed

• Identity Information: The student's name (optional; some features, such as Class Battle, can be used without entering a name)
• Education/Performance Data: Grade level, placement test results, completed topics, correct/incorrect answer statistics, game/league scores
• Transaction Security Data: Device/browser information, IP address (for technical infrastructure)
• Voice Interaction Data: If the voice-question feature (microphone) is used, speech is converted to text; audio is not stored and is only processed momentarily
• AI Chat Data: Questions the student writes or speaks in AI chat mode and the responses received
• Parent/Guardian Contact Information: Parent name, email/phone information, if requested during account creation

3. Purposes of Processing

• Providing the student with a personalized math learning experience
• Tracking the student's progress and identifying topics that need more work
• Running the score/league system in Class Battle and game modules
• Measuring service quality, detecting and fixing errors
• Fulfilling legal obligations

4. Legal Basis

Personal data is processed on the legal grounds of the establishment/performance of a contract, the data controller's legitimate interest, and explicit consent of the data subject (or, for children, their parent/guardian), under KVKK Art. 5/2.

Special note regarding children: under Turkish law, minors (under 18) have limited capacity to give valid consent on their own. Account creation (via nickname and PIN code) does not request any real identity information. The AI chat feature is handled differently: before it is used for the first time, an adult (parent/teacher) is asked to self-declare that they are aware of the feature; chat does not start without this confirmation.

5. Parties to Whom Personal Data Is Transferred

AI chat infrastructure providers (Anthropic Claude API and Google Gemini API) — only for the purpose of responding to messages written/spoken in chat mode, using the minimum data necessary

Hosting/server provider (Vercel) — for running the application

Payment service provider (Google Play Billing) — for Pro membership and in-app purchases

Advertising SDK provider (Google AdSense — H5 Games Ads) — only for rewarded/optional ad display; ads shown are non-personalized/contextual, and no behavioral or targeted advertising is shown to child users

Where your personal data is transferred abroad beyond what is legally required, this is done in accordance with the cross-border transfer conditions set out under KVKK (explicit consent, or safeguard mechanisms determined by the Turkish Data Protection Board).

6. Data Retention Period

Personal data is retained for as long as required by the purpose of processing, subject to the statutory limitation periods set out in applicable legislation. If an account-deletion request is made, data is deleted or anonymized within a reasonable period.

7. Rights of the Data Subject (KVKK Art. 11)

Users (for those under 18, via their parent/guardian) have the following rights:

• To learn whether personal data concerning them is being processed
• To request information about it, if it has been processed
• To learn the purpose of processing and whether the data is used in accordance with that purpose
• To know the third parties, domestic or foreign, to whom the data is transferred
• To request correction if the data has been processed incompletely or inaccurately
• To request deletion or destruction of the data under the conditions set out in KVKK
• To object to a result to their detriment arising from analysis of the processed data exclusively through automated systems
• To request compensation for damages suffered due to unlawful processing

8. Cookies and Similar Technologies

A limited number of cookies/local storage entries may be used on the web version to remember session preferences. No third-party tracking cookies are used for personalized-advertising purposes.

9. Changes

This notice may be updated in the event of regulatory changes or an expansion of the application's scope. The current version is always published on this page.
